Sprint: Nope, we're not raising our ETF to match Verizon

Sprint: Nope, we're not raising our ETF to match Verizon

With any material change when it comes to wireless companies, it's almost expected that the other carriers will follow suit.  Case in point: Verizon's decision to raise their ETF (early termination fee) to $350 for smartphones and other "high-end" devices.  Within minutes of the announcement, Twitter and technology websites were buzzing about whether other carriers would pursue the same policy.

In a tweet from Sprint's official account today (seen in the picture above), the carrier confirmed that they aren't planning to make changes to their early termination fee.  So, that's one down, two more to go (AT&T, T-Mobile).  Anyone care to speculate on which direction they'll go?

just a question but by raising the ETF does that count as verizon changing the contract to the point where I can cancel without paying the fee?...because I was thinking of canceling my contract soon when all of a sudden I stumbled across this a few minutes ago...if I can't its ok (I'll just be stuck with a centro for another year because i refuse to pay anything over $175 to cancel) but if its possible at all it would be good to know

If you knew how many times people start up accounts with Verizon, only to get the phone and then cancel, you would understand why they are raising the ETF for SmartPhones and PDA's.

Tmo won't - Even More Plus buys the phone outright, so no etf.

T-mobile, no chance.. They are kinda pushing their no commitment Even More Plus plans. So raising their ETF would be stupid. At&t doesn't have much reason considering they have a steady increase in phone sales thanks to the iPhone.

T-Mobile no way not going to happen in Xilon years. AT&T maybe but few things come in mind AT&T has the most smartphones users and smartphones a large amount of them have iPhones and those users are not going any where anytime soon smartphone users tend to keep their phones for longer. I would think that if you have AT&T and are true smartphone user you have an unlocked phone and unsmartphone data plan on your SIM card. I do not think that they need to increase the ETF unlike VZW because VZW is expecting people who switch to a unsmartphone to a smartphone consider going back to a basic phone. And if they do not then they should because most of their users do not know much about smartphones let alone Android I mean for me and you it is essay but some people buying the Droid do not know about widgets. funny thing is VZW made widgets a iCan but how good are widgets if the users do not use them? The iPhone on the other hand is so simple for every user.

i think ATT will go the way of verizon and tmobile will stay with what they have. I don't think tmobile needs any more reason to annoy their customers, it's been a lond month for them.
